STATEMENT

My work evaluates human vulnerability, embarrassment, myopia, objectification, sexuality, and metathesiophobia. I extract elements from personal experiences which elicit sentiments of incredible discomfort, and often embarrassment - for which a resolution is asthenopic. I explore the lack of mutual exclusivity between a delicate profanity with a certain over-passivity; “If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days.”- Sylvia Plath.

My work exists at the intersections between complacency and compliance, sadness and melancholy, and empowerment and objectification. To this extent, I often see my work as a series of contradictions; ideas and thoughts that I invoke from very different parts of my experienced life. With such circumstantial contradictions, often subjects and observers accept unique understandings of their environment. My art sets out to represent a series of snapshots for these dichotomies, where the significance of their contradictions are their own reality.
